We decided to extend the contest to October 1st, 12:00 pm EST. We realized that the original notification about the contest went out after classes were out for summer break! As a result, many teachers weren't able to tell their students about this fun drawing contest with great prizes. Also, for those who did know about it, we noticed that most entries came in right on top of the deadline, and this extension will give tweens and teens extra time to create their characters in case they missed the deadline. So please, share this contest with your friends, classmates and students. We're so excited to receive more entries and can’t wait to share the results!
CONTEST DETAILS:
The Draw Your Own Vinetrope Contest is the perfect creative project for teens and preteens who are artists at heart, like to draw, or who are just true fans of Return of the Vinetropes. The prizes for this contest include $500 Amazon gift cards for first place winners, art supplies, art books, and a chance to showcase your winning drawings! There will be two age groups eligible to enter the contest: middle school students (grades 6-8) and high school students (grades 9-12) as of this fall, 2018. There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner for each age group. The winners will be notified on October 15th via email and will be publicly announced on vinetrope.com and on the official Vinetrope Adventures social media accounts after we’ve confirmed with our winning contestants. We will also be publishing the winning drawings for everyone to see!

The contest is to draw a brand new vinetrope character that you created! You can use pencil, colored pencils, charcoal, markers, ink or you can use a mixture of these media in your drawing.
If you familiarize yourself with the world of vinetropes, and you love to draw, this will be a fun chance to show your talent. Imagine your own unique vinetrope character. What is your character’s story? Is he/she a scientist, an artist, a teacher, engineer, rescue worker, or maybe a farmer? Vinetropes do all of these things just like we do, but with their own special powers and talents. And of course, they look like…well…vinetropes! Like us, they come in all shapes and colors—but remember—they are small, fairy-like creatures. (16 inches would be considered tall for a vinetrope.) Now, picture your vinetrope. What would he/she look like? Does she have short leafy blue-green hair? Or maybe he has a long chestnut brown pony tail of vines braided down his back and a tattoo of a pine tree on his arm.

What would a vinetrope physician’s stethoscope look like? Would a vinetrope “healer” even use a stethoscope? Maybe they use a medical instrument that is very advanced and that we have never seen before. You have the freedom to invent it! |

- Author Sherry L. Ross, Vinetrope Expert and creator of the vinetrope world.
- Julie Bell, Illustrator of Return of the Vinetropes. Julie is an internationally famous fantasy artist, as well as one of our country’s greatest animal painters.
- Fred Ross, Founder of The Art Renewal Center, Art Historian, Author and has a master’s degree in Art Education from Columbia University.
- Rochelle Saxena, Public Relations Director and in-house Writer for the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly, NJ—one of the largest community centers in the country. Rochelle is also an artist in her own right and has organized and produced several successful art shows for the JCC and works closely with the center’s team on all the community’s cultural projects in all the arts.

contest rules:
- One entry per person
- Entrants must be in grades 6th-12th as of the 2018 fall semester
- Entrant must be following @thevinetropeadventures on Instagram by the time the contest ends (August 31st, 2018 at 12:00pm EST) by the Instagram account submitted to us during entry. We will be checking.
- Photos of drawings must be clear and signature must be visible
- If any materials submitted are unclear, or we are missing information, we will contact the entrant requesting better or more materials. If we do not have everything we need by end of contest, submission will not be valid.
